When my family and I started having a hard time making ends meet, I called one of those so-called attorneys who promise to sue your mortgage company or lower my payments. They also promised that we could stay in the house for up to two years without making any mortgage payments.

So, with two of my friends, who were also having a hard time, we were scammed by these attorneys who promised the moon and the stars but never did absolutely anything! They demanded $1,700 up-front fee AND $1,500 every single month, which we stupidly paid because, they’re attorneys, and they wouldn’t scam people, right?

My family’s most horrible nightmares came to my doorsteps when after four months of paying these guys, both of my friends’ houses started getting foreclosed. Their houses were literarily sold at the County auction by the bank right under their nose.

I still am traumatized by the memory of one morning when I woke up and there was a notice on my front door called Notice of Trustee Sale (it’s basically a notice of when the bank is going to force-sell the house to some investor and your family has to literarily pack the bags and leave, and my friends were told by the Sheriff to leave the house when their houses got auctioned off.) I was horrified and called this loan modification attorney that I had been paying to protect my house. They gave me the usual run-around and they said they may be able to delay the sale, but I didn’t buy it anymore. I was disgusted at how many of these scammy companies are out there stepping on families who are down. I feel sick to my stomach when I see these guys continuing to do false advertising in the newspapers and internet.

By God’s grace, I was able to get in touch with William and his team. He actually sent a letter to me, and while I usually trash all the garbage junk mail, his letter was sincere and had a lot of credible, no-BS information about a lot of the questions and anxieties I had about my situation.

William told me I don’t have enough time to submit the short sale and the only way to stop the scheduled sale is to file a bankruptcy. Although I have never thought about going for bankruptcy, I was out of options at that time and filed the bankruptcy with the attorney referred by William.
